Our Procedure

We offer a complete weight loss program, including laparoscopic banding.

In most cases this operation is

  • Keyhole surgery
  • Adjustable
  • Reversible

Hospital stay is usually 1-2 days. The patient can return to normal activities in about 2 weeks.

Who can have gastric banding?

Some people respond better to surgery than others, if you are considering surgery it is worth looking over the list below to determine your eligibility.

In most cases the operation is possible

  • If you are aged between 18 and 65 years
  • If you need to lose at least 20kgs
  • If you are willing to adopt a healthy lifestyle and eating habits
  • If you are willing to participate in regular follow up and monitoring visits.
  • This involves monthly visits for follow up in the first year.

How it works

The procedure involves

  • A small pouch is created in the upper stomach
  • Hunger is reduced
  • You will feel full after a small amount of food as food is released slowly through to the rest of the stomach

Problems

There can be serious or lethal complications from any operation. Fortunately these are very rare after gastric banding. Less serios complications can occur some years post operatively.

Costs

At present this operation is available only in the Private Hospital system. If you have private insurance, out of pocket expenses will be less than $3000. If you do not havve insurance, the cost will approximate $12,000 - $15,000.
